Oman Algae

This is an image for The Glowing Waters of the Arabian Sea are Killing off Ocean Life.

In this March 2, 2017, image from the NASA Aqua-MODIS satellite, a mass of the algae noctiluca scintillans blooms in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman stretching past Pakistan to India. The swarms of microscopic creatures beneath the surface of the Gulf of Oman were all but invisible 30 years ago _ now they form giant, murky shapes that can be seen from satellites.
